About one and half million children under age 18 years have high blood pressure but don’t know it, according to a new study at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
Researchers looked at the health records of 14,000 young people and found that about 4% had high blood pressure and another 3% were at risk. They concluded that about 75% of those with the condition went undiagnosed.
High blood pressure can be a serious condition that causes damage to organs, brain, blood vessels and eyes. It is linked to obesity and heart problems.
