For several years now, physicians have advised against giving children fruit juice more than one small serving per day. Fruit juices, it was believed, offered too much sugar, too few nutrients, and replaced milk - an important source of nutrients - in the diet.
But a new study of dietary habits of over 3,600 children revealed that those who drank 100% fruit juices, even those who drank three servings of juice a day, were no more likely to be overweight than children who drank no fruit juice at all or only one serving per day.
What is more, study authors suggest that while whole fruit is a better source of fiber than juice, 100% fruit juice is a good source of beneficial nutrients and vitamins.
So you may not need to worry so much about fruit juice. But make it 100%.
